Plot Summary

A widow, Anandi Devi (Meena Kumari) living on her own in a small village is taken to the city by her relative on the pretext of staying with his family. But his real intention is to use her for all the household chores without paying any wages. Upon knowing this, she moves out and lives in a broken-down structure, hoping that someday, someone will come for her and claim her as family.
