Plot Summary
Metropia takes place in a not-so-distant but terrifying Europe of the future. The world is running out of oil and the underground train systems have been connected, creating a gigantic subway network beneath Europe. In a suburb of Stockholm, Roger (Vincent Gallo, Buffalo '66) tries to stay away from the underground because every time he enters, he hears a stranger's voice in his head. Is someone trying to control him? To help him escape the disturbing web of the Metro, he looks to the mysterious Nina (Juliette Lewis, Whip It) but the further they travel, the deeper he's involved in a dark conspiracy. This star-studded, "technically innovative" (The New York Times) animated sci-fi thriller also features Alexander Skarsgard (True Blood), Stellan Skarsgard (Mamma Mia!) and Udo Kier (Shadow of the Vampire).

I was stranded in an airport and still couldn't watch this
I have an incredible tolerance for slow art films and thought I was going to love this. I so, so wanted to love it, since I was stranded at an Airport with nothing to do. It was drivel, drivel, drivel, I almost had a nervous breakdown it was so horrible on so many levels. I didn't finish it, true, so maybe the ending was amazing. I chose to read a old copy of USA Today, instead. It was much more engaging.
Gripping from beginning to end
The tension in Metropia never lets up. It's gray, depressing, oppressive. It's Kafka and Orwell with creepy looking animation. It's worth watching, even if only that you've probably never seen anything like it. I just watched it for the first time before writing this. I'm going to watch it again, because it struck me as the sort of movie you figure out more, each time you watch it. A lot of attention was paid to very subtle details. Very subtle is an understatement. It's one of those movies where everything means something. Enjoy.
Impressive and surreal
Lovers of unique visual effects will find lots to love about this striking, surreal film, which has an entirely unique look. I was so amazed by the appearance of the film that I paid less attention to the plot than I could have; I kept being awed by the appearance, and kept trying to figure out how the creators of Metropia created the novel effects. Check it out, and you'll probably be fascinated as well...
