Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: It is ultimately a moving experience that captures the quality of a time and a place. It's not a movie for the ages, but, having seen it, you won't ever again feel detached as you walk down West 42nd Street. – Vincent Canby, New York Times, Jan 13, 2014

Fresh: Midnight Cowboy's peep-show vision of Manhattan lowlife may no longer be shocking, but what is shocking, in 1994, is to see a major studio film linger this lovingly on characters who have nothing to offer the audience but their own lost souls. – Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly, Feb 22, 2012

Fresh: In this film the scenery is lovely and only the human race is vile. – Robert J. Landry, Variety, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: Midnight Cowboy moves beyond realism into an archetypal tale of the Big City destroying dreamers. Joe and Ratso, like Of Mice and Men's George and Lenny, are quintessential failed, lower-class, buddy-dreamers. – Michael Wilmington, Chicago Tribune, Sep 2, 2014

why did john wayne win best actor?

don't get me wrong i love the duke but dustin hoffman deserved this oscar. Ratso Rizzo is a sleazy, sickly and pathetic derelict (bum) con man who you in the start of the film you like out of pity. Then as you watch the rest of the film you realize that Rizzo is a human being and he just wants to be treated as one and no one did until he meets Joe Buck. This is not a gay relationship but a frienship of two people who have no where to go and no one to turn to. At the end is when you regret ever disliking Rizzo and you just cry because of it. Im not saying the end though, you'll have to find this out for yourself. See Midnight Cowboy and be ready to be amazed by this timeless classic.

An American Classic

One of the greatest films of all-time, this is one of those movies that once you see it, you absolutely never forget it. Voight is fantastic, and Hoffman gives the performance of his career. Check out the awesome new HD trailer and rent this amazing movie!

Voight & Hoffman are larger than life

Just like David & Jonathan, we will never know Ratso & Joe's true relationship; but to fret about that, you miss out on an intimate relationship between two men. This is the story of two losers who find the acceptance they crave. When I first saw this movie it was "R" rated, then somebody suspected it had a gay theme and the rating went to "X". Boy did that help sales!!! Screw the Bible Belt conservatives; censorship is as moral as slavery.
