Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: Mirror Mirror is a film that's all picture and no propulsion, each scene static in a basic set-decoration color scheme of teabag and banana.
Rotten: Who wants to see a fairy tale that weighs a ton? Mirror Mirror reflects badly on everyone involved.
Fresh: Here, the familiar tale is retold with concessions to feminist self-determination and camp humor, bending the Grimm Brothers' tale without infringing on its basic beauty.
Fresh: Loved it!

A DECENT RETELLING OF THE SNOW WHITE TALE
"Mirror Mirror" is certainly one of the more peculiar additions to make it into the recent canon of live-action fairytale adaptations. It isn't as terrible as 2011's "Red Riding Hood", but it also isn't quite as memorable as this year's "Snow White and the Huntsman". For the most part, it's an uneven film. I'll start off by saying that the film does benefit from some committed performances by Sean Bean, Nathan Lane and especially Julia Roberts as the Evil Queen. She absolutely nails it as the villain, with her brilliant comic timing and amazing commitment to character. Lily Collins also manages to deliver a solid, albeit uninspired effort as Snow White, which can additionally be said about Armie Hammer as the Prince. As for the seven dwarfs, they're actually well-cast for the most part and even have some pretty funny lines. But aside from the decent acting, this version of Snow White still has its glaring flaws. Director Tarsem Singh fails to add enough depth or originality to the story to make this rendition of the classic fable stand out among all the others. And even a few memorable lines of dialogue can't save the one-dimensional quality of the script from inevitably wearing thin. But just because it has a few narrative problems doesn't mean it's all bad. I enjoyed the meticulously detailed art direction, especially the sets and costume designs. Plus, I was also surprisingly impressed by a few of the special effects. So while it may not be the most thrilling or memorable film adaptation of a fairytale you'll ever see, "Mirror Mirror" still makes for a mildly entertaining, family-friendly romp buoyed by solid performances and a colorful array of striking visuals. Some will enjoy it, others may not. Either way, I recommend renting it at least once.
FRESH! NEW! PERFECT FOR THE FAMILY!
This film adaptation of 'Snow White' is most unique giving audiences a fresh look and interpretation of the classic fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm. While this version is more geared towards a younger crowd, "Mirror Mirror" gives audiences a friendlier and more comedic spin of the original dark story, unlike "Snow White and the Huntsman" which has an enormously contrasting story line. As slap-stick and cheesy as this film might be (and is), it still has a perfect villain played by Academy Award® winner Julia Roberts as the Evil Queen. For those used to seeing Roberts in films such as "Mystic Pizza", "Pretty Woman" or "Sleeping With The Enemy" be warned that the tables have turned and America's Sweatheart has turned deliciously evil in a completely different role. If you or your children are Disney fans, this film is heading in that direction and format, including a colorful and lavish score written by Academy Award® winning composer Alan Menken ("The Little Mermaid", "Beauty & The Beast", "Aladdin"). Visually stunning, wonderful special effects, good funny bits, and a happily-ever-after, "Mirror Mirror" is a great movie to watch and enjoy with the family.
Wonderful!!
Watched it for family movie night with wife and tweens and we loved it. Script is fun and witty. Julia Roberts is at her best. This fairy tale adaptation is current, clean and enjoyable family fun.
