Plot Summary

In 2006, 'NSync's Lance Bass came out publicly as gay. Once the "most beloved son" of his home state of Mississippi, he was instantly rejected and his hopes that Mississippi could ever embrace change were dashed. Then in 2010 he heard the story of Constance McMillen, 18, who was suing her school for denying her the right to go to the prom with her girlfriend. Something was shifting even in the most socially conservative states in America. MISSISSIPPI I AM examines the relatively new fight in the state over "traditional God fearing values" and the push on the part of primarily young LGBT people and their progressive allies to bring gay civil rights and visibility out in the open and beyond division.

Truly great heart wrenching yet inspiring documentary

I believe all Americans should take the time to watch this all-too-real documentary about gay youth living in the South today. Truly eye-opening!
The doc tells the story of 3 unique teens living in Mississippi and how being gay has completely altered their lives in almost every aspect. Most stories are heart-wrenching and troubling but then there are moments of triumph and inspiration which give hope to a better tomorrow. Such a great watch!!!!!

Great Job!

Great message! Big step in the right direction!

Excellent

An honest & unflinching account of what it's like to be gay in the Bible Belt.
