Plot Summary

Although this edition of the Fall Classic represented a rematch of the 1942 World Series, there were some familiar faces missing from both the Cardinals and Yankees due to World War II. Despite the absence of Joe DiMaggio, Phil Rizzuto and Red Ruffing, the mighty Yankees captured the title from the defending champs in five games, giving Manager Joe McCarthy his seventh World Series championship. Hall of Famer Bill Dickey hit a two-run blast that sealed a 2-0 Game 5 victory for the Yankees and their tenth championship in 21 seasons.
