Plot Summary

With a growing number of ballplayers called into military service, the St. Louis Browns were able to wrestle the American League pennant away from the Detroit Tigers with a victory over on the last day of the season. Billed as the “St. Louis Showdown,” the Browns met the three-time National League champion St. Louis Cardinals in the 1944 Fall Classic. With Hall of Famer Enos Slaughter on military leave, Stan Musial’s Cardinals captured their second championship in three years, defeating the Browns in six games.
