Plot Summary
In a series that would be decided on the mound, the surprising Cleveland Indians outdueled the Boston Braves in six games. After Cleveland’s Gene Bearden clinched the pennant for the Tribe in a one-game playoff against the Boston Red Sox, Feller took the hill in the World Series opener against Boston’s Johnny Sain. The two aces traded scoreless innings until the Braves manufactured the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning. But Cleveland took the next three games, surrendering a mere two runs over 27 innings to the Boston bats. A Major League record crowd of 86,288 watched Bob Lemon put the finishing touches on the 1948 Fall Classic in Game 6 with a 4-3 win.
