Plot Summary
Manager Eddie Sawyer led his Philadelphia Phillies into the Fall Classic for the team’s first appearance since 1915. The “Whiz Kids” dropped four straight to the New York Yankees and in the process plated a mere five runs, only three of which were earned. With Phillies pitching ace Robin Roberts forced to pitch three games in the final five days of the season, it is no surprise the Yankees captured the sixth sweep in World Series history. The potent Yankees offense paced by Hall of Famers Johnny Mize, MVP Phil Rizzuto, Joe DiMaggio, and Yogi Berra was largely silent in the series dominated by pitching.
