Plot Summary
In a series that featured future Hall of Famers Mike Schmidt and George Brett, the Phillies captured Postseason glory over the fledgling 11 year-old expansion Kansas City Royals. Propelled by veteran Pete Rose and two victories by Steve Carlton, the series came to a climactic end with the irrepressible Tug McGraw saving the day in Game 6. Catcher Bob Boone was the series surprise with a robust .412 average, but was overshadowed by series MVP Schmidt and his .381 average and two home runs.
