Plot Summary
After dropping the first game in the series 2-1 to John Denny and the Phillies, the Orioles grabbed the next three games in come-from-behind fashion to take a commanding series lead. As Phillies hurlers held regular season MVP Cal Ripken, Jr. and fellow future Hall of Famer Eddie Murray in check by limiting them to eight hits in 38 at bats, Baltimore rode the unexpected hot bats of World Series MVP Rick Dempsey and John Lowenstein, who each contributed at a .385 clip. In the rich Orioles tradition of starting pitching leading the way in the big game, Scott McGregor completed the comeback in Game 5 as he tossed a complete game shutout.
