Plot Summary

A terrific ensemble cast powers this fast-paced action-adventure based on the true story of the rise of organized crime in America. Mobsters traces the daring exploits of four close friends growing up in the 1920's New York: the charming "Lucky" Luciano (Christian Slater), the savvy Meyer Lansky (Patrick Dempsey), the headstrong "Bugsy" Siegel (Richard Grieco) and the diplomatic Frank Costello (Costas Mandylor). From their humble beginnings, they formed an impenetrable bond that led them to the top of the underworld in this visually stunning film co-starring the sultry Lara Flynn Boyle and Oscar®-winning actors F. Murray Abraham and Anthony Quinn.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: For all its machine-gun hits, Mobsters seems to have run out of energy soon after casting. – Caryn James, New York Times, Jul 25, 2014

Rotten: There isn't a moment when you simply sit back and share in an actor's joy at revealing himself through his role. – Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly, Jan 31, 2011

Rotten: The seemingly can't-miss premise of teen-heartthrob gangsters gets lost in self-important direction, a shoddy script and muddled storytelling. – Variety Staff, Variety, Jan 31, 2011

Rotten: Mobsters looks like it was made by people who have seen too many gangster films for people who haven't seen any. There isn't a breath of life in the filmmaking. – Peter Rainer, Los Angeles Times, Jul 25, 2014
