Plot Summary
Outrageous and controversial, this is the story of legendary movie star Joan Crawford (Faye Dunaway) as she struggles for her career and battles the inner demons of her private life. This torment was manifested in her relationships with her adopted children, Christina (Diana Scarwid) and Christopher (Xander Berkeley). The public Crawford was a strong-willed, glamorous object of admiration, but Mommie Dearest reveals the private Crawford, the woman desperate to be a mother, adopting her children when she was single and trying to survive in a devastating industry that swallows careers thoughtlessly. The rage, the debilitating strain, and the terrifying descent into alcoholism and child abuse are graphically - and unforgettably – depicted in this film, based upon Christina Crawford's best-selling book.

Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: There is nothing to string the episodes together into a coherent drama, and no insight into Miss Crawford herself.
Rotten: Dunaway does not chew scenery. Dunaway starts neatly at each corner of the set in every scene and swallows it whole, costars and all.
Fresh: It's rich, stimulating thought in spite of itself.
Fresh: Director Frank Perry, who collaborated with three others (including producer Frank Yablans) on the script, gives it all a certain crazed conviction.

Fantastic!!!!!!!
Faye is one of my favorite actresses. She playes the part of Joan Crawford so well. If your interested in the life of Joan Crawford, watch it!!!
Fayes Greatest Role
Faye Dunaway turned into Joan Crawford when she made this picture. It is well acted and Mara Hobel is remarkable as young Christina. I have seen this movie many many times and absolutely love it. It is a shame Dunaway never speaks in public about it or promotes it in any way. She shines and should really embrace a great performance. Not to be missed this picture is well worth buying.
Crazy woman movie
So, I saw this a while ago, and I enjoyed it. Faye's acting was fantastic, although some of the scenes are, as aforementioned, laughable (especially the infamous "NO MORE WIRE HANGERS!!!"). I usually just refer to it as "the crazy woman movie" and people automatically know what I'm talking about.
