Plot Summary
Richard Dreyfuss plays actor Jack Noah, who gets the role of his life when Parador's fascist strongman consumes too much national drink and drops dead the day before the elections. The chief of police (Raul Julia) then "invites" Noah to assume the role of president - under the threat of death. Noah's confidence grows with each speech and with personal support from the dead leader's sultry mistress (Sonia Braga), a champion of Parador's downtrodden masses. But when guerilla fighters strike, Noah wonders if it might not be time to move to a new role.

I've had this movie for a while now and it is one of my favorites.
The premise is interesting and the acting on occasion over the top but it is fun to watch and I bet it was fun to make. Raul Julia gets to go over the top on occasion and he does it well. It's just a romp.
It was not an Oscar movie but that's part of the charm it doesn't take it self too seriously. Richard Dreyfuss does a good job playing an actor (Talk about type casting.) Sonia Braga comes through as a strong woman who's trying to survive the best she can with what's she thinks is all she's got. Then she finds she has more that she ever suspected.
Fun well acted
I have seen this movie multiple times over the last few years and never get tired of it. Great acting and fun story. Sonia Braga is uber hot and the acting is all great.
