Plot Summary
Over the past 15 years, numerous colonies of bees have been decimated throughout the world, but the causes of this disaster remain unknown. This compelling documentary from Markus Imhoof, Oscar-nominated director of “The Boat is Full,” investigates the phenomenon known as colony collapse disorder and the causes posited by scientists to explain what is responsible for the weakening of the bees’ immune defenses. The dwindling bee population threatens the worldwide produce industry, because without bees, there is no pollinization, and fruits and vegetables could disappear from the face of the Earth.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: A fascinating but rambling documentary about the decimation of the world's bee population through the phenomenon known as colony collapse disorder.
Fresh: Most striking in "Honey" are closeups of the bees in their hives, symbiotically working together in creating their new queen: Imhoof rightfully spends time detailing the extraordinary nature of bee social structure.
Fresh: Oblique narrative aside, you can't beat the film's eye-popping visuals.
Fresh: Eye-popping photography should draw viewers to this thoughtful, revealing doc.

Beautiful Scenery But Difficult To Understand
Excellent cinematography of plants, mountain ranges, flowers, bees, and, people. However, a large portion of this movie has people speaking in German (?). Unfortunately, there is no captioning at the bottom of the movie viewer/movie. Also, I ensured that the captioning and subtitles were turned on in English--but that didn't help. Hence, I could not understand what was being said unless the person was speaking English.
Therefore, most of what I was viewing were beautiful scenery shots combined with some aspects of unintelligible dialogue. On the other hand, if a person viewing this film speaks & understands both German (?) and English, then, this film is a winner. Nonetheless, I turned the film off after about 20 minutes. Likewise, whoever made this film "dropped the ball" if they intended for English speaking viewers to enjoy this documentary.
Beautifully shot but no punch
Semi-interesting but given such a fascinating subject I felt the movie fell flat.
