Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: Morning Light is a sweepingly beautiful documentary unmoored by democratic intentions.
Rotten: The film feels more like the ultimate scrapbook for the participants than the vicarious thrill the pair no doubt imagined for audiences.
Rotten: If the makers were hoping they'd chronicled a metaphor for life's struggle, they probably weren't counting on the struggle being monotony.
Rotten: An old-fashioned doc about a sailboat race is well produced but lacks urgency and true insight.

Morning Light Captures what every Sailor Wants to Share with Land Lubbers
ML is a fantastic peak into what every racing crew experiences. There is team work, competition, humor and balls-to-thewall high speed sailing. I took my non-sailing co-worker, her husband and my wife to see it. We were all AMAZED! My wife got a glipse into what her husband used to do nearly every weekend and we all came away with that feel good comraderie. Many time watching sailboats race is like watching turtles and only those in-the-know understand the strategies and enjoy. Not this movie. Everyone will like the team building and find the sailing to be faster and more exciting than NASCAR and more agile than Formula 1. I salute you, Roy Disney. Job well done.
Wonderful Sailing Story
Wonderful documentary about sailing and the chalenges that a group of young adults faced in 2007 during the Transpac race. Definitively for anyone who loves sailing.
Fails on all levels
This documentary failed on practically all levels. The people were uninteresting, and made more uninteresting by the direction. I didn't learn squat about sailing. All the drama and tension natural to the situation seemed to be sucked out or covered up. It was predictable and contrived. In place of real character and heart, the director opted for treacly, trite stories about the challenges the 2 girls and one black guy had to overcome. The narrative was unclear at times. The only good thing about it was the footage, but even that was tainted by lack of explanation or context. And how the hell did this boat of young sailors come in 2nd in one of the supposedly most brutal races in the world? We hear nothing about who may have been challenging them for 3rd or 4th. I happen to think maybe there weren't any such challengers! I wanted to get into the technical, emotional, and practical difficulties of sailboat racing. Instead I got a one-and-a-half hour long infomercial for Roy Disney.
