Plot Summary
It's Valentine's Day in the tiny mining town of Valentine's Bluff, Nova Scotia, and for the first time in two decades the residents are planning a holiday dance. The long hiatus is due to the tragic events of 20 years earlier, when a pair of mining supervisors were too busy enjoying themselves at the dance to prevent an accident from killing a large contingent of their workers. The lone survivor, Harry Warden, took his revenge the next year by removing the hearts of his bosses and promising similar carnage if ever another Valentine's dance were held. Unfortunately, the town's horny early-'80s youngsters aren't big on tradition, especially since Warden is locked up in an insane asylum. They go ahead with plans to celebrate the holiday — even after a heart in a candy box shows up and beloved biddy Mabel (Patricia Hamilton) ends up enduring an involuntary tumble dry. Soon, bodies begin piling up, setting the stage for a climactic trawl through the mines and surprise revelations about the fate of Harry Warden. Shortly after the death of John Lennon, the MPAA made an example of this Canadian slasher film, forcing much of its gore to be excised. Nevertheless, My Bloody Valentine provided inspiration for Kevin Shields' influential band of the same name, which helped establish England's late-'80s shoegazer sound and paved the way for the post-rock of the 1990s. ~ Brian J. A truelly under rated slasher classic!
First off, let me give my thanks to itunes for uploading "My Bloody Valentine", a horror movie that came out during the golden age of slasher flicks, the 80s. Plus, one viewer on here gave this movie only 1 star saying that it had bad acting. Well even if it does have that, so what? it's still a good movie, i watch horror movies with cruddy acting all the time and I still find them amusing. To end this review, "My Bloody Valentine" is a really good movie, I urge everybody out there to watch it, and for the love of god, enjoy it. p.s. itunes needs to upload more horror movies, I recommend the following: Drive-Thru, The Tripper, Dead Alive, Intruder, Candyman, Hellraiser, Slumber Party Massacre, Severance, Suicide Club, Re-Animator, Evil Dead, Frankenfish, Zombi 2, The Prowler, and many other good movies I didn't typed down.
They just don't make Horror films like this anymore! 5 *****
Great Film! Great Time/Decade for Horror Movies! I'm happy that Apple has chose this fine film for there iTunes Movies. Typical Plot of any horror film. Miners and Girlfriends are have Valentines Day party (knowing... they are not allowed) and an unsuspecting unseen killer is terminating them in good ol bloody fashion, one by one with his pick axe! Great weapon of choice for horror films. Plot is good! Killings are Good! Story is very good but very simple. Again, this is a serious type of horror film with very little comedy where as horror films today have comedy/horror. litlte gags and jokes appear but they dont' dwell on it. At any rate, you won't be dissapointed with this clever underrated Canadian flick! (in the horror rumor-mill, they say they are either re-making this which would be horribe and or they are coming out with a long awaited Part 2) again its the horror rumor mill... who knows what will happen! Enjoy! Glenn | Boca Raton, Fla.
Pleasantly Suprised!
I had seen this movie advertised at Blockbuster before, but never got around to renting it. I'm suprised it didn't get as much recognition as I feel it deserved. It wasn't the BEST horror movie ever made..and it certainly wasn't the worst. It was a lot of fun to watch..and I found myself laughing a few times. I was pleasantly suprised. Strictly a cheesy campy horror movie..so don't expect anything intense. But, still a lot of fun to watch:)
