Plot Summary
In Louis Malle’s captivating and philosophical My Dinner with André, actor and playwright Wallace Shawn sits down with friend and theater director André Gregory at an Upper West Side restaurant, and the two proceed into an alternately whimsical and despairing confessional on love, death, money, and all the superstition in between. Playing variations on their own New York–honed personas, Shawn and Gregory, who also wrote the screenplay, dive in with introspective, intellectual gusto, and Malle captures it all with a delicate, artful detachment. A fascinating freeze-frame of cosmopolitan culture, My Dinner with André remains a unique work in cinema history.

Fresh: But what an egg it is.
Fresh: Louis Malle's film was unique and exceptional in 1981, and it's still fairly unusual. It's a lesson in the value of listening and squeezing riches about humanity out of the swag of talk

Amazing
I remember watching this movie in my high school drama class. It is a study in acting, storytelling and film making. It's a classic and textbook example of how to let characters and dialogue move a good story forward, without having to use explosions or spastic cutaways :)
My Dinner with Andre
Truly a classic! If there is any hope for mankind then the wisdom in this classic should be considered by all. If you are not enlightened in the first viewing come back and see it again.... And again. I highly recommend it!
A rare lovely thought provoking gem
Rented this movie with an open mind and returned to buy it after watching the rental 3 times. I am still thinking about the concepts discussed, although I found the last 30 minutes to be the real 'meat' of the thing. Relevant no matter what year you watch it - it covers things we all struggle with - then, now and always. I recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone who wants a movie that leaves you thinking and a little wiser for having spent time with it.
