A Waste of Time and Money
Sorry to say that this movie is a total bust....it is just plain terrible. It feels like they are trying way too hard for a hit movie. Don't buy or rent, you will be sorry. Really, trust us. Meg Ryan is a trainwreck, it is sad to see. She was so cute in Sleepless in Seattle :-( ... bummer.
totally underrated - great funny movie
its a bit more of the slapstick comedy genre but the movie had some great lines and some really funny scenes. colin hanks and meg ryan were both great. definitely worth renting and much funnier than most of the comedies available right now.
I *Might* Need To Give This Movie One More Chance But....
As of right now, the movie seems like it had so much potential and did not at all develop on that potential. The main reason for this mess: the script. It had sparse funny moments (when they did happen though, they were funny) to contribute to a comedy, and barely developed upon the "action and adventure" aspect of the film (which it should have because that is the genre iTunes classifies it as). The script would have passed with me too--until the final act. The "plot twist" which I didn't see coming (because it was somewhat stupid....) made the whole first two acts in the movie pointless. NONE of it needed to happen.... The reason why this movie does not get a two or a one is because of the acting. The acting was sharp and witty; and all of the actors really took shape of the characters they were playing. I have always liked Selma Blair since "Legally Blonde," and her moments were too few. The two males played off of each other extremely well....And as for Meg Ryan (whom I've always loved, I have a bias) was my favorite part. She played this very down-to-Earth woman who was very fun to watch--and would have been more fun with better material. However, while Marty's character was funny, it had a lot of room for improvement (especially since she was the leading lady in the movie). Meg Ryan isn't to blame for this though, it--as I said earlier--is the poor script. What this movie could have been is undoubtedly better than what it is. As people always say: great acting can't make up for the poor script. And while I disregard plot wholes (or reason with others that they aren't even there), even I can't get over the huge gap in the storyline. And that's where my review ends: three out of five stars for a poor script...but good acting. Worth a rental, but not a purchase (which I unfortunately did because I have such faith in Meg Ryan). If I could, I would give it two-and-a-half stars, but that is not possible....So three it is.
