Plot Summary
Director Gregg Araki’s MYSTERIOUS SKIN, adapted from Scott Heim’s acclaimed novel, is an intensely powerful chronicle of childhood innocence lost. The film features starmaking turns from Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Inception, Looper, The Dark Knight Rises) and Brady Corbet (Thirteen) alongside outstanding performances from co-stars Michelle Trachtenberg (Eurotrip, Ice Princess), Mary Lynn Rajskub (TV’s 24) and Academy Award® nominee Elizabeth Shue (Leaving Las Vegas). At the age of eight, Kansas youngsters Neil and Brian played on the same little league baseball team. Now, ten years later, the two boys couldn’t be more different. Neil is a charismatic but emotionally aloof male hustler while Brian is a nervous introvert obsessed with the idea that he has been abducted by a UFO. When the boys’ parallel lives inevitably intersect, the pair unearth dark, repressed secrets on a harrowing and unforgettable journey of self-discovery.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: The film has a weird buoyancy.
Fresh: The usual Araki elements are here (hustlers, rebels, uproar, the absurd), but now he appears to be working with focus and compassion.
Fresh: While watching this movie, I scribbled the word 'whoa' five times into my notebook.
Rotten: The audience has gotten the point roughly 90 minutes before the characters do.

Heart Shaking
This movie is something that will leave a mark on your heart forever.
Speechless
There is a part of me that wish I didn't see this movie - especially the part where the violence and unthinkable take place. As a story it is heartbreaking and "nightmare causing."
Pure from performance point of vie - the acting is brilliant and amazingly directed.
Not for the fainted heart. And not if you are not ready to deal with the ugly sides of humans.
Raw truth
This is a very strong film, about an extremely serious subject. There is much here. It is not for those who wish to believe small town America is safe. I am not sure if I would suggest this film anyone. Then again, maybe people need to know the raw truth. This is as real as it gets.
