Plot Summary

Aloof teenage Japanese tourists, a frazzled Italian widow, and a disgruntled British immigrant all converge in the city of dreams—which, in Mystery Train, from Jim Jarmusch, is Memphis. Made with its director’s customary precision and wit, this triptych of stories pays playful tribute to the home of Stax Records, Sun Studio, Graceland, Carl Perkins, and, of course, the King, who presides over the film like a spirit. Mystery Train is one of Jarmusch’s very best movies, a boozy and beautiful pilgrimage to an iconic American ghost town and a paean to the music it gave the world.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: It's the best thing Mr. Jarmusch has done to date. – Vincent Canby, New York Times, Mar 10, 2013

Fresh: The three-part structure of Mystery Train is still a bit shambling and slight, but there's an undeniable air of deadpan cool that permeates the film and gives it a haunting sense of place. – Chris Nashawaty, Entertainment Weekly, Mar 10, 2013

Fresh: Certainly Jarmusch brings back his favorite predilections (and probably always will), but he makes his passengers interesting, kicks the plot off the platform whenever possible and keeps the way ahead refreshingly uncertain. – Desson Thomson, Washington Post, Mar 10, 2013

Fresh: The best thing about "Mystery Train" is that it takes you to an America you feel you ought to be able to find for yourself, if you only knew where to look. – Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times, Mar 10, 2013

Jim's Best

Following the rave reviews of Stranger Than Paradise, Jarmusch had plenty of pressure to out-do himself. This sweet and beautifully written movie delivers on the personal interest story as three tales are woven together, sprinkled with plenty of humor and good music. It is charming and quirky which is Jarmusch's speciality. Enjoy.

Great movie!

I have been waiting for this movie to come out for years!

Mystery Train

" Old Bridge" needs to put a window in his stomach in order to see. Very funny shaggy dog story. Rare turns by the late, great Joe Strummer and Screaming Jay Hawkins.
Hawkins alone is worth the price of admission. Great stuff!
