Na wewe

This movie didn't win the Oscar for best short but it should've !!

Something Wrong with the Universe...This One is the Real Winner

I saw all five Live Action Short Films nominated this year and I am stunned that Na Wewe did not win. The direction is incredibly tight...setting the stage with the banal, blabbering Belgian on a sleepy, dusty, hot afternoon in a crowded minivan...followed by the terror of capricious insanity that moment, by moment, threatens to end each person's life. The suspense is masterfully managed with a complete understanding of how life-threatening superstition and stupidity can be.

The actors are perfect...boorish, stupid, cowed, frightened, heartless. These people could have come straight out of my own experience of being held up at rifle-point in Mexico in 1970's on a lonely, hot, country road. The cinematography is very clean...close shots for emphasis, wide shots for comprehension, tone to set emotional mood.

I say, let's do it all over again and this time get it right...this one is the winner for 2011!!!

Compelling...just fantastic

I bought this after I saw the Oscars because it looked like the best out of the short films that were nominated. I'd studied the 1994 genocide in the area in my freshman year at college, and after that, watching this was really moving--don't mistake me, it would have been moving without that. The actors are fantastic, and you will be so, so anxious for all of them as you watch this.
