Plot Summary

After an unexpected phone call, Laura (Karmine Alers - Rent), and her brother Elliot (Ryan Vigilant - Gossip Girl), rush to their family's country estate to find their mother, Lilly (Lue McWilliams - The Pill), gravely ill and living with a handsome young stranger named Ted (Benjamin Weaver). Estranged for some time, their mother's condition sets Laura and Elliot on a path to realizing where their own lives have gone wrong. Lilly, on the other hand, has mellowed from the controlling woman she was and is hoping to pass on some wisdom to her children. Now her kids find themselves dealing with their own feelings of resentment and broken dreams while trying to figure out how Ted fits into their mother's life. But Ted has a secret of his own. Written and directed by Richard LeMay, Naked as We Came was among the official selections of the top LGBT film festivals across the globe and received numerous awards and accolades.

A nice surprise

Due to the name of this movie and the movie cover photo, I didn't expect much from it.
Now that I've watched the movie, understand the meaning behind "naked as we came", etc., I am very glad I bought the movie, rather than rented. I've watched it twice now, and liked it even better the second time.
You'd think from the central theme of the movie that it would be depressing. It isn't. In fact, it is very healing on many levels.
If you're looking for an action movie, move on. This is subtle drama about life (and death) that is not over-acted, and in my opinion, very well done.
