Plot Summary
There's magic in the memories as great Disney moments are captured right here for you and your family to enjoy. Two young children (Johnny Whitaker and Jodie Foster) suddenly find themselves in charge of a gentle, aging circus lion. However, when they are threatened with being split up by stern authorities, the trio embarks on a perilous journey across the wilds of the American Northwest. During their adventure-filled odyssey, they seek help in their plight from a sympathetic, free-spirited mountain man (Romancing The Stone's Michael Douglas). Ferocious forest predators, a dangerous drifter, and the pursuing police make for a head-over-heels race to breathtaking conclusions in this captivating saga.

A Truly Moving Film
As a fan of Disney films, I have to say that this film surprised me. Typically, a Disney movie with cute kids and an animal costar is a comedy with a light plot. This is the exact opposite. This is a drama. Napoleon and his grandfather inherit a lion from a retired circus clown, but when Napoleon's grandfather dies, he has nobody to take care of him. With the help of his friend Samantha and a college student named Danny, he buries his grandfather and tries to avoid the orphanage. This leads to Napoleon and Samantha setting off through the mountains with their lion to get to Danny and the perils they cross along the way. The acting is superb and it is easy to see why the score was nominated for an Academy Award. However, I must warn that the film gets very depressing at times. I enjoyed it and it was very touching, but if you are easily saddened, you may want to look towards other Disney animal movies that are more uplifting. I reccomend Rascal and The Biscuit Eater.
A magical movie with a great cast.
I've watched this movie at least a dozen times over the years and it never fails to tug at the old heartstrings. True movie magic. We need to be able to buy this movie in HD, or at least be able to rent it in HD.
