Wonderful Mini-Documentary!

Weighted heavily by the popularity of Icelandic pop sensation Björk, "Náttúra - Summer 2008" is a concise glimpse into the struggles currently facing one of the most abundant areas of natural habitats: Iceland. Featuring many interviews with musicians such as Einar Örn, Sigur Rós, and Björk, along with the respected opinions of documentarian Ómar Ragnarsson and author Andri Snaer Magnason, the documentary discusses the economic downturn of Iceland in correlation to the "Náttúra" movement and the benefit concert given on its behalf in June, 2008. The short film is visually stunning, with awe-inspiring visuals of the Icelandic landscape, all set to the wondrous, ambient tones of the country's musicians; video originally broadcast in National Geographic's Webcast of the concert is also present, including Björk's performances of "Earth Intruders", "Declare Independence", and "I Miss You", the latter a duet with the mischevious Einar. A beautiful snapshot of the "Náttúra" cause and its hope for the future, Charlie Lightening's brief film successfully manages to inspire, consequently willing its viewers to take action and not let the necessity of nature be overlooked. The documentary is exciting and purposeful. "Well, the problem for Iceland, is...it's our nature, you know? It's all we got!" - Björk

Model of Citizenship

The white powder to which Iceland is addicted is alumina. Smelters and World's worst polluters exploit Iceland's energy resources but few there benefit. Democracy assumes a duty speak out on behalf of majority. This fast paced film explores innovative ways for citizen's everywhere to be heard and demand responsible and sustainable approaches. Individual interviews with Björk, Einar, and several island experts and scientists clearly explain the issues facing one of Nature's most pristine wildernesses, which industrialized countries could only dream to restore at home. Articulate and smart, you'll want to own and share with thinking friends, because its core issues face all mankind.

Nattura! Nattura! Save our nature...

A documentary relevant to all, saving nature is a job for humankind to save us from ourselves. This Icelandic issue reaches even myself in California because as a Conservation Biologist I appreciate Bjork and the other scientists and activists connecting the dots between Iceland losing its incredible nature as a world issue. The fight to maintain nature in Iceland is like the last stand in an ongoing war having been fought for the better part of the last century to protect nature from destruction and over-industrialization. I agree with this documentary and its analysis in seizing a crumbling economy as an opportunity to do things the right and "green" way. Bravo!
