Plot Summary

Neil and Sarah used to talk about bands they love; now they talk about gift cards. They are, in short, in that uneasy transition from hipster to yuppie, and they're asking themselves the universal question that all married couples in their thirties are asking themselves: How the hell did that happen? In an effort to rekindle their relationship, they set out on a trip that lands them back in their old neighborhood, in a trendy section of Los Angeles. A few drinks bring back a few memories, and Neil and Sarah end up breaking into the apartment they used to share, squatting illegally in their now-gone twenty-something-year-old lives for a few days. After throwing a raging "housewarming" party, Neil and Sarah must rely on their grown-up resources to avoid some serious consequences.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: "Nesting" takes an old idea and tosses in a few today-sounding phrases in hopes of coming up with a fresh-feeling movie. But that isn't enough. – Neil Genzlinger, New York Times, May 10, 2012

Rotten: The script unfortunately suffers from its own case of arrested development, barely getting out of the gate before stalling, and never building enough laughs or narrative impetus to justify feature length. – Dennis Harvey, Variety, May 8, 2012

Rotten: Writer-director John Chuldenko stretches a sitcom episode premise to feature-length breaking point in "Nesting." – Gary Goldstein, Los Angeles Times, May 10, 2012

Rotten: Chuldenko doesn't aspire to hard realism, but a lifestyle comedy with hard-to-buy fundamentals and a central couple you can't invest in is a dubious proposition nonetheless. – Benjamin Mercer, Village Voice, May 8, 2012

Nesting

Most romantic comedies we've seen lately have had offensive language to the point of being vulgar. By contrast, this one was refreshing & delightful to watch.

The characters were likeable & funny - the plot held our interest - it was witty & fresh - appealing to baby boomers like us.
We particularly liked the lawyer in the lawn chair scene.

Good Film

This is a good movie. It has an independant film quality to it's production and editing. Being a comedy I can say it didn't make me laugh once, BUTTTTTT I had a smile most of the film. I felt good watching it, I wasn't sad. i was in a very relaxed, enjoyable mood afterwards. Worth a watch, and worth respect. But I can't say worth a purchase.

Slice of life at its best

This movie made me feel cheerful on a drizzly, dull afternoon. The actors were talented, I loved the script - it was like real-life humor and dialogue. I was entertained the whole time and when it was done, I was left with a good feeling. I'll certainly be recommending Nesting to my friends and family. I cannot believe the negative reviews it's received on rotten tomatoes. Please don't let those people think for you, it makes me sad that anyone would skip this gem of a story because of that horrible and completely unmerited score.
