Plot Summary
A man with the ability to see the future and change the outcome of events before they occur is forced to choose between saving himself and saving the world in this supernatural thriller starring Nicolas Cage and directed by Lee Tamahori (Die Another Day, The Edge). Cris Johnson (Cage) is a Las Vegas magician who possesses the unique ability to witness the events of the immediate future moments before they happen. As a child Cris was subjected to a series of cruel experiments by government scientists and doctors, but a change of name and a new identity allowed the tortured psychic to elude detection and start a new life away from the prying eyes of his former captors. Though his clairvoyant vision only extends a few minutes into the future, it has still allowed Cris to eke out a living as a low-rent Las Vegas magician while earning a little extra cash at the blackjack tables. Up to this point in his life Cris has never used his power for anything substantial, but when he experiences a vision of Los Angeles being incinerated in a nuclear holocaust, the small-time magician realizes that he could hold the key to saving millions of lives. But as low as he has tried to lie in recent years, Cris has never completely escaped detection by the government. Now, as terrorists prepare to unleash the ultimate horror on an unsuspecting city, FBI counter terror agent Callie Ferris (Julianne Moore) sets out to capture Cris and convince him to use his exceptional gift to prevent the nuclear nightmare from becoming a terrifying reality. Jessica Biel, Peter Falk, and Thomas Kretschmann co-star in the film, which is based on a short story by acclaimed sci-fi author Philip K. Dick.

Rotten: It's too bad that Mr. Cage couldn't tap into those powers to save himself from another bad choice in roles.
Rotten: A schlocky mix of bad special effects and worse Cage hairdos.
Rotten: Once you know the rules, it's hardly worth playing. Especially when you find out you've been tricked.
Rotten: Next comes across like a standard clock-puncher for almost everyone involved.

Didn't Live Up To My Expectations...
I rented this movie because I knew all the stars in it, and I expected great things, knowing the acting abilities of all three main actors. However, the more I watched it, the more it seemed like a B-rated movie. Even so, it was an entertaining watch, and I would recommend to rent, not buy it, because chances are that you'll only want to see it once. Also, just a note, the love scenes between Nicholas Cage and Jessica Biel are slightly disturbing, as Cage is about twice the age of Jessica. Just a thought.
So you think you can act?
Wow. My girlfriend and I watched this movie and found ourselves acting like the movie critics that sit on the front row in "Mystery Science Theater 3000." The movie moves at a snail's pace and the only person seemingly intent on acting is Cage himself, although he could have done better. The storyline is full of of holes and the ending is anti-climactic at best. You would be wise to skip this one and go on to the next.
Good. Enjoyed it.
First rental from iTunes. The film itself was impressive and fun. As others have mentioned, sometimes the acting seems a little forced. The kids on the reservation absolutely killed my immersion due to poor, forced acting. Many parts seemed like they could have used a few more takes to get them perfect, but overall, the film was good. I wasn't impressed with the video quality. For a 1.2 gB video at 1 hour 30 minutes, the video quality was understandable. Still, this was passable only as composite video. The quality suffered greatly on its way from Apple, and thus, I doubt I'll be renting from iTunes again.
