Plot Summary

Johnny Rizzo is about to trade his dream job in talk radio for some snooze-ville gig that'll pay enough to please his fiancée. Enter Uncle Terry (Burns), a rascally womanizer set on turning a weekend in the Hamptons into an eye-opening fling for his nephew. Nice guy Johnny's not interested, of course, but then he meets the lovely Brooke, who challenges Johnny to make the toughest decision of his life.

Thoroughly Enjoyable Fare

Rented Nice Guy Johnny today after trying unsuccessfully to rent it On Demand through Time Warner. If I wasn't eager to pick up an Apple TV and cut the cord with cable before, I certainly am now! Anyways, the film is throughly enjoyable and Mr. Burns' best work since Sidewalks of New York. The first act is a bit conventional, but it picks up real steam when we're introduced to Brooke and the two hit it off. I smiled straight through the 2nd act as it's packed with heartfelt scenes and powerful performances from these unknowns. In this manner, I found it very reminiscent of The Brother's McMullen actually.

This movie is a coming out party for Kerry Bishe. She takes what could have been a cliche role, and turns it into a genuine and winning performance. She lights up the screen in every scene and seems incapable of a insincere moment. This is a star in the making, and I look forward to following her career. Matt Bush (Johnny) and Mr. Burns (Terry) also put in good work as well, but Kerry steals the show here.

By shooting this film on a shoestring and releasing it digitally and On Demand instead of in theaters, Ed Burns is testing a new financial model/paradigm for independent film. I do believe this could be the future for American Independent Film.

A charming & funny flick!

I saw this at the Fort Lauderdale Film Festival and found it to be an entertaining movie. This is a great date movie or it can be watched alone. Great performances by both the female leads and of course Ed Burns, who's character pushes "Nice Guy Johnny" to be honest with himself for the 1st time. The male lead (Johnny) left a bit to be desired, but he did a good enough job that it didn't hurt the overall fun of the flick. If you like Ed Burns films - here's another one! Jump right in and enjoy!

Excellent Film, Ed Burns at his best!

I saw the trailer on Coldplay's website, and just finished watching the movie. Loved it.
Great dialogue, very relatable story about staying with your dreams no matter what.
Performances were awesome, especially Ed Burns who is HILARIOUS! Glad he is
back to being the lovably crass bad boy. And, as in all of Burns' movies, the music
really shines. Picked up the soundtrack and love it.
