I love this movie. A moody, romantic gem.
I love this movie, -- even more than House of Dark Shadows (which I also Love).
According to Dark Shadows "folklore," edits were made in a short amount of time, due to pressure from the studio to keep the movie to an hour and a half. Supposedly we can expect a revamped version (--with lost footage--) possibly in 2010.
But this gem, edits and lost footage aside, has always been near and dear to my heart.

A Wonderful Insight into a Film with a Troubled history
Apparently, when remastering Night of Dark Shadows for this release, the "original magnetic soundtrack master" was used. The result might appear, to the uninitiated, to be a film with some extremely ragged editing! (Well, it is- and that's a story unto itself!) The unintended release of the film's original audio provides tantalizing glimpses into the film that "might have been." (These audio glitches were evidently smoothed over when NODS was released theatrically.) Here, we get to hear the beginings of lines never finished, some dialogue we've never heard before, and some different music cues. Hopefully, the long-talked-about restoration WILL happen, and these clues will assist in the reconstruction of this moody, DARK ghost story!
Night of Dark Shadows
I really like this movie a lot. Great suspense, terror and atmosphere.
