Plot Summary

Joe Pantoliano (The Sopranos, Memento, The Matrix) makes his documentary directorial debut with NO KIDDING! ME 2!! as part of his fight against the stigma and shame of mental/brain “dis-ease” (or disease). This empowering film sheds light on what nearly 100 million Americans suffer in isolation. Through candid, often humorous discussions with Pantoliano and his family on their struggle with his own clinical depression, as well as the compelling stories of six other people from all walks of life, all affected differently by mental illness, including a brain surgeon with bipolar disorder and three high school students managing bipolar disorder and clinical depression. Each frankly discusses the struggle before they were diagnosed, including attempts at self-medication and other destructive behavior, as well as the hope and encouragement they discover when managing their own recovery and realizing they are not alone. The result is an inspiring vision of a society that “stomps the stigma,” as those impacted by mental illness are surprised to find millions of others like themselves, saying, “No kidding, me too!”

Amazing

I actually received a copy of this film from Joey himself after he gave a talk on the stigmas of mental illness. The part that I really reached out to me was his work with disabled veterans suffering from TBI, and how its such a huge problem within the veteran community but it seems at times that it is pushed under the rug in regards to specific treatments. Joey and his team bring to light many "stigmas" of mental illnesses and bring to light an issue that needs to be made more aware and not labeled as such. Such a program as NKM2 sheds the light on the discouraged and disheartened and shows that there is hope for living a fruitful life with mental issues and that not one person is alone in their struggles. Joey himself being a sufferer but still doing something that he loves at the same time being a rolemodel that as a celebrity, he knows the plight of the common person with similar illnesses. A great film indeed and look forward to more from NKM2 and their generous work.

Truly A Must See for All People Everywhere!!!

This documentary should be seen by everyone. Joey Pantoliano's directorial debut is a courageous, honest and moving portrayal of how the disease of Bipolor illness has affected his life, work and family relationships. Joey openly speaks about his struggles through the years and how he felt so ashamed because he felt he "should" be satisfied because he was a successful actor and had a loving wife and family. Joey from the outside looking in, "Had it All" , yet ultimately wound up feeling like a fraud and a failure because of the undiagnosed depression and bipolar illness which (through no fault of his own) sucked the joy and happiness out of his life, damaging himself and the people that loved him the most.
Through the lens of Joey's struggle and ultimate victory is how we see the stories of six different people who we root-on through their daily battles of getting through life dealing with their Depression and BiPolar disorders. You will fall in love with these people who give their stories and testimonies bravely and without shame. For this is the goal Joey is trying to achieve: to "Stomp the Stigma" of mental illness- to get people to stop being ashamed of their brain chemistry- and that it's not their fault! Joey's noble crusade began when he was denied insurance coverage should he "have a mental breakdown" on a film he was shooting. The outrage he felt became the impetus for this truly amazing and ground-breaking documentary. I hope he continues to "Stomp the Stigma" and heal more and more people throughout the world- God Bless Joey Pants for making this movie!!

Fantastic Documentary....

After meeting Joey and hearing about this I decided to rent it. I have a sister who has some issues and I thought it might be good for her to watch it, but I wanted to watch it first. This is a beautiful heartfelt documentary addressing some major issues in people's lives. Bottom line, it's OK to be you, just be willing to accept you and work on fixing things that can make you and better you!! :)
