Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Despite [it being] about a journalist at a powerful newspaper who is jailed for refusing to name her source, Nothing but the Truth has nothing to do with you know what or who. – Manohla Dargis, New York Times, Dec 17, 2008

Fresh: Nothing But the Truth has been made with brains, pace, and skill, and with a topical fury that puts it ahead of the curve on its real subject: the withering of freedom in a democracy gone apathetic. – Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: Lurie has crafted a different kind of thriller, one with a mind and a heart. – Peter Travers, Rolling Stone, Dec 18, 2008

Fresh: The story of a journalist willing to go to prison to defend her right to protect her source on an explosive story, Nothing but the Truth itself resembles a workmanlike piece of journalism motivated by an outraged sense of injustice. – Todd McCarthy, Variety, Jul 7, 2010

I<3themovies!

This movie was so good! It was a great thriller! Kate Beckinsale was incredible and for sure robbed of recognition for her performance! One of the best films I have seen in a long time!

A movie that never reaches its peak.

This movie was pretty good for the most part. The only problem I had with it, which was a big problem, is that it never reached its full potential of power as a film or as a story. By the films end not much has happened. You see more scenes of Kate Beckinsale rotting away in jail than you do of anything going on outside of the jail cell. And I think that's because not much is really going on outside of her jail cell. And the whole time the story feels like it's being held back by something, and you think it's going to hit you soon with a surprise, but it never does. The acting is top notch, Kate is a great actress, as are the others in the film. You're intrigued by the story the entire time, waiting for it to be resolved, but it never really is. The films end is a bite sized shocker and in a way it sort of makes up for everything the film lacked, but in a way it makes the entire film somewhat pointless in the sense that if that was her source then she should have just giving it up... Overall this movie is good. It's not Oscar worthy or anything you should buy, but it is in the Red Box, so if you have one close by then I suggest you go rent this movie for a dollar like I did. ha.

powerful movie

throughout the movie i questioned myself if i would have done the same thing because my love for my child is so great. once they reveiled why she did what she did, i understand. making me think about it like that is what makes this a powerful movie. (and it was also great to see ross, no play the role of ross)
