off the grid life on the mesa
This is a fantastic peek into the lives of the last true free americans, men & women who fought for our country, and other like minded souls who have no desire to live like the rest of us stuck on the wheel, living the slave life of debt & excess that society sells us. More power to them, a must see movie for the ones who like myself are trying to get off the wheel and buy our lives back.
Just So You Know...
Anyone looking at the title of this movie and expecting a bit more about alternative energy, wind turbines, solar panels, etc...you may be disappointed. It seems to be an accurate depiction of life on the Mesa, just as it states in the subtitle, however, if you are seeking practical application of alternative energies (as typically implied by the term "Off the Grid") out in the desert, that is an entirely different documentary somewhere else on the internet.
I know..."off grid" means "off grid" and it was exactly that. I just made an assumption based on the title and that was my own dumb fault.
Still, interesting to see what goes on about the Mesa.
A surprising hit
I chose to rent this film, having heard nothing about it, but simply intrigued by the title. While the film focused mostly on the men, I found the "mamas" of the community the most interesting. Overall, I really enjoyed the film-it is articulate and profound, and I thought the directors/producers did a great job of capturing the context of the people's lives in a depthful way.
