Plot Summary

Experience the high-spirited adventures of Oliver Twist in this Oscar-winning musical adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic tale! Young Oliver (Mark Lester) is an orphan who escapes the cheerless life of the workhouse and takes to the streets of 19th-Century London. He's immediately taken in by a band of street urchins, headed by the lovable villain, Fagin (Ron Moody), his fiendish henchman, Bill Sikes (Oliver Reed), and his loyal apprentice, The Artful Dodger (Jack Wild). Through his education in the fine points of pick-pocketing, Oliver makes away with an unexpected treasure... a home and a family of his own. Set to a heartfelt score that includes such favorites as "Consider Yourself," "Where Is Love?" and "As Long As He Needs Me," "Oliver!" leads us on a journey in search of love, belonging and honor among thieves. Winner of six Academy Awards (1968), including Best Picture and BestScore, "Oliver!" will steal your heart!

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: The focus of the movie is so wide, and the logistics of the production so heavy, that Oliver himself, dutifully played by 9-year-old Mark Lester, gets flattened out and almost lost, as if he had been run over by a studio bulldozer. – Vincent Canby, New York Times, Feb 24, 2014

Fresh: After a season of watching inane twitching in the name of dance, the viewer is most happily greeted by Onna White's choreography, an exuberant step-by-step exploration of Victorian zeal. – TIME Magazine, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: There's plenty of mileage left in the famous story. – Rich Gold, Variety, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: A treasure of a movie. – Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times, Jul 7, 2010

Cool Beans

I actually grew up in England in the early 80's, and my grandma bought me the vhs' when i was about 3, and i could never sit through the whole thing, b/c its got to be about 2 and a half hours...I gave the vhs' away to one of my friends in 7th, since i never got attached to it. late 80's i finally sat down and watched the entire flim, and i fell in mad love with the movie, and the cuteness of Jack Wild (Dodger's) vocie. I highly regret giving that flim away [: Xoxo, Amy
