Plot Summary

An official selection of the 2002 Sundance Film Festival. Shy computer whiz John (Josh Hamilton of J. EDGAR, BROKEN ENGLISH) gets dumped by his fiancée and moves in with his old college roommate, Moe (Harold Perrineau of TV's LOST, THE MATRIX FRANCHISE). The two build an adult website where clients are connected to live, erotic chat sessions with Internet sex workers like Jordan (Vanessa Ferlito of JULIE & JULIA, TV's CSI: NY), an absolutely breathtaking "club kid." Jordan agrees to go on a date with John after an especially intense chat session, but John soon realizes the difference between computer fiction and reality. Also starring Isabel Gillies (TV's LAW & ORDER: SVU).

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Watching On_Line is a dispiriting experience that leaves you with a nagging 'Is that all there is?' feeling about sex in general. – Stephen Holden, New York Times, Jul 16, 2008

Fresh: A fine example of digital filmmaking. – Kevin Thomas, Los Angeles Times, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: This would-be erotic thriller suffers from the same problem that afflicts so many computer-oriented movies -- namely, that watching characters staring at a screen and typing hardly makes for a thrilling cinematic experience. – Frank Scheck, Hollywood Reporter, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: The movie epitomizes the problems inherent in attempting to depict new (and constantly morphing) media -- the inevitable obsolescence, the intangible particularities that resist or get lost in translation. – Dennis Lim, Village Voice, Jul 30, 2003
