Powerful Film
I got to see this film at the Sundance Film Festival 2 years ago and I was very impressed. A powerful indie film. From what I remember at the time, I was very impressed with how the film dealt with rape and the effects going forward and how the couple dealt with it. Robin Tunney was very good and the supporting cast did a fine job as well. Some very realistic and frightening moments as well showed off some very creative and well planned film making. From the Q&A afterwards I remember the director saying how long it took to get this film made - I'm happy to see this available and definitely recommend it.
Pretty Good
It's kind of hard to criticize a film about rape. This movie is sincere and moving at times, but it's also slightly boring. Robin Tunney did a good job, her performance is the captivating force here. Her understated delivery saves a bland script and uninspired direction. I give the film four stars because of her. The musical score was distracting at times, and actually diminished the emotional impact of the performances. An unfortunate choice of music. The pacing drags a bit, and a few points of dialogue had me cringing (when the therapist starts to tell the story about out-swimming the sharks I groaned). Tunney's presence generally redeems a movie that risks being depressing & cliche'. Her authenticity and vulnerability win out in the end. I didn't regret watching.
