Plot Summary
Another big-budget monster movie from producer Dino de Laurentiis, Orca concerns the mutual revenge pact between an obsessive whaler (Richard Harris) and an angry killer whale, whose pregnant mate Harris killed. The whale strikes back by biting off Bo Derek's leg, so Harris and concerned biologist Charlotte Rampling follow it to frozen northern waters for the climactic showdown. Just in case you like Jaws better than Moby Dick, there's a killer shark thrown in for good measure. Ponderous, pretentious, and dull, this opportunistic disaster fittingly sank at the box office.

jaws ripoff with TONS of ham & cheese!
this movie was made in the (literal) wake of jaws. you can see the wheels turning...throw in some cheesecake (charlotte rampling, bo derek), cast a legendary british stage actor in the 'ahab' role (jaws had robert shaw, orca has richard harris) turn the whole thing over to a hack tv director, and watch the hijinks ensue...the director wasnt even able to keep the killer whale from overacting, so imagine how much richard harris intimidated him !) some of the most classic golden raspberry moments... btw, to the person who said that if you like jaws you will like this...wow! i had heard about people who had no taste before, but i never thought they would be willing to post that lack of taste in public....seriously, if you watch anything about movies beyond the surface (both are about potentially dangerous aquatic animals) you are apt to laugh yourself silly at 'orca'. this is actually a primer on 'wannabe's' showing the 2 back to back in a film class - illustrating the difference between classics and ripoffs, asd the very qualities that separate them. still i will give them this much...killer whales are beautiful animals, and are fascinating, but it does beg the same question that jaws, the revenge (which may have actually ripped off 'orca' in a trul;y bizarre series of events) i do object to them being portrayed as dangerous animals, albeit intelligent ones with, apparently, a working knowledge of architecture, weather systems, geography, demolition and construction, and biology. it is always fascinating to watch orcas, however, i think you would better served to watcha nature documentary about killer whales...although watching the whale leaping and flipping and performing the usual sea world stunts as the town burns is an interesting spin on emperor nero and for those less discriminating of you out there, sorry, iy is not comparable w/jaws.... jaws the revenge, maybe?
I MEAN ITS A FREAKIN ORCA!!!!!
I watched this movie with my grandpa every time i visited him since i was, like, six. Of course it was a bit scarier back then but I love it all the same. It so over the top and intense if it were made today it would be in the comedy category with the likes of Steve Zissou. I would also use it as a guage to tell if your younger kidds will like scary movies, use it as a stepping stone to other stuff. ITS AN ORCA!! A WHALE THAT KILLS PEOPLE!! how can you beat that??! Free willy can suckit, sharks are dumb and overplayed, this bad boy's out for revenge!!!! AN ORCA! C'MON!!!
Wow
what a waste of money this movie is a piece of crap save yourselves 10 dollars
