Plot Summary
Nimer, an ambitious Palestinian student in the West Bank, dreams of a better life abroad. One fateful night in Tel Aviv, he meets Roy, an Israeli lawyer, and the two fall in love. As their relationship deepens, they are both confronted with the harsh realities of a Palestinian society that refuses to accept Nimer for his sexual identity, and an Israeli society that rejects him for his nationality. When Nimerʼs close friend is caught hiding illegally in Tel Aviv and sent back to the West Bank, where he is brutally murdered, Nimer is forced to choose between the life he thought he wanted and his love for Roy.

Fresh: Even though the plot defies credibility at several points, "Out in the Dark" is gripping, and Nimr's tearful exile from his family breaks your heart.
Fresh: Ratchets up the tension on its appealing lead characters in believable, heartfelt ways while spinning out an edgy tale fueled by do-or-die sociopolitical intrigue. It's unique, powerful stuff.
Fresh: The love between a well-heeled gay Israeli lawyer and a struggling Palestinian student serves to examine harsh realities in both communities in Michael Mayer's textured drama.
Rotten: By the end, Nimr and Roy have become heavy-handed symbols for the ongoing clash of ideologies in the Middle East. "Out in the Dark" fared better when it treated them as people.

Fine acting, decent writing.
Superb performances by the lead actors, who channel the harsh and unrelenting backdrop of despair, love and fate. There are quiet moments of beauty, shadowed by gritty scenes of fear, alienation and loss.
Decent, but not great.
It conveyed powerful messages, but in the end the acting wasn't very strong and I lost focus. It's still definitely worth watching though.
A Must See!
Drama, action and suspense make this a very amazing movie. Wish it showed more at the end.
