Plot Summary

Despite his struggle to navigate an office paralyzed by cultural misunderstandings, Todd finds his co-workers impossible to dislike - especially his friendly replacement Puro (Asif Basara), and the beautiful and opinionated Asha (Ayesha Darkher - Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the clones, Bombay Dreams). Through a series of hilarious misadventures, this charming, critically acclaimed romantic comedy reminds us that sometimes getting lost is the best way to find yourself.

Fresh: I guess Outsourced is simply too bright and pleasant to become a huge hit, but it's a confident little genre film with near-classic charm. – Andrew O'Hehir, Salon.com, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: The problem with making a movie on topical subjects is that by the time of its release, it can seem awfully stale. – Ruthe Stein, San Francisco Chronicle, Oct 6, 2007

Wonderful is exactly the right adjective

This movie is not about the title, not really, and it's not about West meets East belly laughs. It is romantic, funny, poignant and smart; overall a superb film. It's in someways similar to New in town and The Englishman who went up a hill but came down a mountain. It is a gentle as the latter and would be as understandable as the former for Americans. I bought the film AFTER watching it and it made me want to go to India it's that good!

Surprisingly well handled

This easily could have ended up as a disaster by playing on stereotypes and using kitschy hollywood devices. Instead they managed to avoid all of those pitfalls and just make a movie that is both entertaining and thought-provoking. It adds a personal side to a global issue.

Reluctant visitor becomes traveller

This is a front row seat on the process of cultural immersion, played out on the stage of human vulnerability and corporate monocular vision. We watch Todd grapple successively with his own obsolescence as his own American job is "outsourced", his gradual awakening in a land about which he knew nothing, leading to his eyes opening wide.
Romance is a good catalyst, but not the only one which propels Todd's alchemy. Unexpected kindness, surprise, confusion, and well-placed humor all contribute.
Ayesha Dharker is an entrancing delight as "Asha". Asif Basra captures just the right notes of naivité, determination, and good heartedness. And Josh Hamilton's evolution is thoroughly believable.
The film stays well within the bounds of a romantic comedy, so we're not troubled with any real tragedies, crises of conscience, or irreconcilable differences. But it still satisfies from beginning to end.
