Plot Summary

Watch this prophetic and award-winning documentary about the the greatest economic crisis of our age – the one that awaits us. In times of crisis people seek strong leaders and simple solutions. But what happens when the politicians’ solutions are identical to the very mistakes that caused the crisis? “Overdose” traces the origins of the financial crisis and explores the eerie similarities with today's situation, where states like Greece, Iceland and even the U.S. seems to be in danger of collapsing. Among those interviewed are experts who were mocked when they predicted the financial crisis, such as Peter Schiff. Other interviewees include Nobel laureate Vernon Smith and former US Comptroller General David Walker (I.O.U.S.A). It is based on the book "Financial Fiasco" by Johan Norberg.

don't understand the praise

if you don't know much about the financial crisis in 2008 i guess this is a decent primer. but like a lot of doom docs there is way too much emphasis on scary images and music. even the ones i like have that. too bad. to me it always cheapens things and makes them seem like propaganda even if they have good content.

i find some the the numbers in this film questionable. but until i dig them up myself i suppose i can't say much.

my biggest issue was they didn't tackle what the next financail crisis in much depth. they talked about the conditions being ripe for anotehr one. they talked about it's magnitude. they talked about governments needing to be bailed out. but that was about it. i'd say take that a step further. what happens when a government goes bankrupt? does some international bank bail them out? do we start from scratch? that's the most interesting point and it wasn't covered. too bad.

Watch Inside Job instead

If you're unfamiliar with the 2008 housing crisis, watch Inside Job. This doc starts an argument about the dangers of stimulus packages and "Too big to fail" policy… but, it's not great. There's better stuff out there.
