Plot Summary

From the director of Driving Miss Daisy comes a true story of courage, triumph, friendship and strength. Starring five-time Oscar Nominee Glenn Close, Oscar-Winner Frances McDormand and Emmy Award Winner Julianna Margulies, this compelling drama reveals the heroic actions of a group of women held prisoner by the Japanese during World War ll. Although they are from different countries, different social strata and speak different languages, the women are forced to find common ground. They unite to form a vocal orchestra and create a life-affirming symphony of human voices. These extraordinary women prove that a song of hope can become a symphony of triumph.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Even with its grueling pageant of torture and abuse at the hands of monstrously inhuman Japanese officers, Road never reaches the heart. – Susan Wloszczyna, USA Today, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: A large cast of gifted actress, including Glenn Close and Frances McDormand, is largely wasted in Beresford's honroable but failed effort to pay tribute to a group of disparate women held captive by the Japanese in WWII. – Emanuel Levy, Variety, Jul 7, 2010

Simply Outstanding

I have been a fan of war movies all my life and have never tired of specific ones regarding WWII. This is an exceptional movie that captures a piece of history that most are unfamiliar with. With a cast of stars, this movie brings out the best of people forced to endure the unthinkable. If you like historical movies, this one is a true winner. It's not to be missed.
