Plot Summary
After a young, middle-class couple moves into what seems like a typical suburban house, they become increasingly disturbed by a presence that may or may not be demonic but is certainly the most active in the middle of the night. Especially while they sleep. Paranormal Activity builds suspense all the way to the shocking end. Roger Ebert calls it "truly scary."** Go ahead, we dare you to watch it at home...at least you can leave the lights on. *Bloody-Disgusting.com ** Roger Ebert, rogerebert.com, Chicago Sun Times

Fresh: It illustrates one of my favorite points, that silence and waiting can be more entertaining than frantic fast-cutting and berserk f/x. For extended periods here, nothing at all is happening, and believe me, you won't be bored.
Fresh: The climax is deliciously scary, and Peli gets considerable mileage from the simple matter of lights inexplicably going on in another room.
Fresh: Peli teases the audience expertly. Scenes remain silent and still; not for long, but long enough to make you sweat. The terror of anticipation and its abrupt release, particularly in the final scene, is exhilarating.
Rotten: Extremely unthrilling, very obvious, very cliched. We've seen it all before.

A scary movie that does its job
Paranormal Activity was scary.
For someone who isn't used to seeing a scary movie in the theaters this was really unexpected, realistic, and strangely a film that really got to me.
The acting is very believable and you would never have guessed that the movie was made on a budget of 11,000 dollars.
It's mainly just sounds throughout the movie and cheap hollywood gags that bring the scares, but it works.
It does what Hitchcock did for thrillers by making the characters vulnerable in the place that we all feel safe at, making the worst things happen in a place where we're supposed to find comfort: our rooms. It makes you wonder what things happen when you're off in dreamland, and it makes you sleep with the light on.
It really is the first scary movie to come out in the past five years or so.
Some scenes were a bit ridiculous, but overall it was really a good scare.
Rent if you're ready to get scared. Don't watch if you're expecting a silly let-down like other horror movies of the past year.
all talk
its not scary, at all. i was disappointed. the only good part was the ending. dont believe the people who say its the scariest movie.
Dumb.
This movie is so fake, it isn't even scary. I laughed throughout the whole thing. And the ending is dumb. Don't waste your money.
