Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: The mushy pretensions of Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid suggest either that [Peckinpah] has begun to take talk about his genius too seriously (it can happen to the best) or that he has fallen in with bad company. – Vincent Canby, New York Times, Jul 16, 2008

Fresh: A richer, more rewarding experience. – Douglas Pratt, Hollywood Reporter, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: It's one of the great tragic true stories of the old wild West, the story of two outlaw friends ending up enemies as one turns over and becomes a lawman - expressly for the purpose of hunting down his friend. – Andrew L. Urban, Urban Cinefile, Jun 24, 2010

Mr

This is it folks. The grand-daddy of all modern Westerns. Want to see what "Young Guns" could look like all grown up? Relax, sit back, and give this one a chance to sneak up on you with its quirks, poetry, and elemental dialogue.

Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid

This is NOT the directors cut of this film. You could get that version on iTunes until very recently. This is a version cut by Paul Seydor in 2005, over 20 years after Peckinpah’s death. The heart and soul of that masterwork has been cut out. This is a true travesty. The director had no say in this version at all and would kill this guy for doing this……..this was a five star film.
