Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: This well-crafted remake of 1978's 'Patrick' is rich in gothic trappings and features a terrific central performance by Sharni Vinson. – Richard Kuipers, Variety, Mar 14, 2014

Fresh: This Ozploitation remake is a spookily effective fright-fest. – Megan Lehmann, Hollywood Reporter, Feb 21, 2014

Rotten: It's a techno-thriller of brain-dead proportions ... – Nick Schager, Village Voice, Mar 11, 2014

Fresh: reimagined from Richard Franklin's 1978 original as a piece of hysterical high gothic with giallo-esque trimmings (not least the fabulously over-the-top score by Pino Donaggio). – Anton Bitel, Sight and Sound, Nov 9, 2013

Pretty Good Remake

A pretty good remake of the 1978 version. They left the campiness and the music and added more gore and sex. Worth that $6.99 rental, even though iTunes should stop charging that and the $9.99 rental fees and stick with the same fee for ALL movies.

Ugh

I need to stop listening to rotten tomatoes. This movie was TERRIBLE. UGH what a waste of my money

Some blunt honesty...

The one thing you need to know going into this: If you dig the tragi-camp horror movies of ’78 to ’85, you will see this as a sincere form of flattery to the paranormal sci-fi slow-thrill killfests of that time. Standard recipe classic horror, served up with meat and potatoes goth, tragic figures and mixed antagonists. I did almost turn it off, but because I am a fan of horror, I saw it more as an homage to the idiom and I figured I’d ride it out. Beware though, the “frights” are pretty low brow. I think before anyone, this will most likely thrill average intelligence grade school kids on a late Friday night. Rotten Tomatoes is predictably stupid as ever. My advice: you probably have better things to do.
