No Opinion

Sometimes, you just shouldn't let people have an opinion. Yes, this movie is depressing but it is completely well done in every aspect of movie making. The writing. The acting. The filming. If you want something light hearted and funny with a nice, clean, cookie cutter happy ending, then watch a mind numbing romantic comedy. If you want something edgy and provacative with real life situations and problems, then watch this. This is the kind of movie that resonates inside of you long after seeing it. 5 stars. Completely and utterly...

Saw this films several years ago, but never did forget it.

Okay, first I'll say the most obvious thing first...I liked the book more than the film. However, I am giving this film 5-stars because it is an excellent film, in it's own right. If you are looking for a 'happy drug user' story, there are many out there--check out a film with Jay and Silent Bob, Harold and Kumar, or Cheech and Chong. If you want an absolutely 'scare you into never taking drugs' film, then may I suggest, "Requiem For a Dream". On the other hand, if you are looking for a personal story of one man's dealing with his own drug addiction, with excellent acting, this would be the film for you.

Not bad, but the book is better

Stahl is one of my favorite modern writers. Permanent Midnight ranks right up there with "Junky" in my book (no pun intended). However, just because the book is great doesn't mean the movie will be, as pretty much every comic-adaptation has proven. This movie is just "ok" at best. Yes, it may be depressing but the story's about a man loosing everything to his addiction, then the long road to recovery. Stahl himself makes a cameo in this movie as the rehab doctor. Trust me, don't judge the book by this movie, it's not the same piece of work at all.
