Plot Summary
A spaceship lands on the mysterious planet Aura to search for a missing vessel. They discover the wreckage and realize that the crew members killed each other. The planet is populated by disembodied beings who need host bodies so they can leave aura and conquer Earth. Like zombies, the dead crew rise and kill off the search team.

Planet of the Vampires
A genuinely creepy movie whose intense, claustrophobic mood more than compensates for the cheap sets and constrained acting. Weaves an evocative, nightmare sense with scenes that have stayed with me for 30 years since I first saw it late-late night. Also, look for the scene that presages the "space jockey" in Ridley Scott's Alien.
One of my favorite movies
"PLanet of the Vampires" would be an influence upon many later science fiction stories. Alien and many more would draw upon the idea of a parasite terrorizing a crew . Like @johnstorm already stated the suspence and feeling of claustrophobia amidst a influential story is what carries this classic more than sets or acting
