Plot Summary

Apple Annie is an impish, gin-swilling New York City apple peddler who, through various enterprises, has saved enough to support her daughter--who has been at a posh European finishing school and has never seen her mother. The young woman, who thinks her mother is a society matron, is about to visit "The Big Apple." Apple Annie panics, thinking she will be discovered and disowned. But one of Apple Annie's hoodlum chums, Dave the Dude, has the idea for an elaborate masquerade using his Broadway connections....Based on 1933's Lady for a Day, which was adapted from a Damon Runyon story.

Another Runyon great

You can watch any Damon Runyon movie and know it's a classic but this is really top notch. I've seen both the original & this one - since it's in color AND has Bette Davis plus Ann-Margaret singing, this is by far the better one to see. Thanks iTunes for putting it in!

Pygmalion in New York

True to classic movie form, this rags to pseudo-riches story is entertaining. Bette Davis plays her part well as a woman with an underlying goal, regardless of her circumstances, a true mother. True friendship, prohibition, the mob, media, politics and international relations...this movie captures it all.

Okay movie

It's worth the money to see Peter Falk do comedy.
