Plot Summary
Polish Bar is a story of faith, loyalty and family. Reuben is a young, middle-class Jew who is fed up with the family jewelry business. He looks for respect by trying to prove himself as a Hip Hop DJ and working for Polish criminals at the local strip club. In a world of sex, cocaine and violence he encounters Ebony, a young black girl who clashes with Reuben's tough guy front. But when Moises, his Orthodox cousin arrives, he causes Reuben to question his own actions and beliefs. Family, greed, and faith conspire against him as he struggles with the ludicrous underbelly of Chicago and his desire to make a name for himself. A FilmBuff presentation.

Jewish Chicago authenticity
In cities like Chicago, neighborhoods make us who we are. An old Jewish neighborhood becomes increasingly Latino. Polish Village in Chicago becomes gentrified and multicultural. POLISH BAR is a movie about what it means to be a young Urban American. In this film seemingly different communities and individuals do exist together, and that this could lead to the "Nice" Jewish Boy working at a Polish strip club with a Pretty Young Black Girl. But that was just a setup and the real point of the movie is to see how much they all have in common. The depraved and the devout are cousins, and neither is as far to one side or the other of the spectrum as we might think. Thanks to all those who made it possible.
A Powerful & Poignant Film Not To Be Missed !
As a big Meat Loaf fan, at first I merely wanted to watch the film because he is one of the stars. Yes his portrayal of Joe was superb and believable .... I always love how he manages to get lost in the character of all his movies, a sign of a truly great actor. But once the movie started, I got caught up in the entire story ... the grittiness of the surroundings and the conflicts of Reuben with his family, especially his loving and caring Uncle Sol, his friends and his religion. I found myself rooting for Reuben, portrayed brilliantly by Vincent Piazza, as the story moved along and felt an emotional connection with him as his relationship changed with Uncle Sol, portrayed brilliantly by Judd Hirsch. The entire cast and crew did an amazing job with this moving indie film ... it truly deserves a large distribution so that everyone will have the chance to see it at least once.
Great acting, great movie!
