Plot Summary
Superstar Harrison Ford ("Clear and Present Danger," "The Fugitive") stars in this boxoffice winning thriller ($86,000,000!) based on the best-selling novel by Scott Turow. Ford is a prosecuting attorney who becomes the prime suspect in the murder of a beautiful colleague with whom he had been having a torrid extramarital affair. As the investigation unravels, the system of justice to which he once committed himself threatens to destroy his career, family and even his life. Jeffrey Lyons of "Sneak Previews" calls this a "first-rate thriller." Directed by Alan J. Fresh: Mr. Ford, who comes alive in the flashbacks recalling his tempestuous affair with Carolyn, spends much of the film with a wary, cautious expression masking all other emotions. He does this with flawless delicacy...
Fresh: Director Alan J. Pakula, who cowrote the script with Frank Pierson, has done a reasonable job of compressing Turow's plot into a two-hour space. But the narrative skeleton is all that's left.
Fresh: Ford -- breaking again from his Indiana Jones heroics -- is astonishingly fine in a performance of controlled intensity.
Rotten: Conscientiously as this movie has been made, it does not work as well as the novel did or as some of Pakula's other films have.

This is one of the rare movies I actually saw with my mother
and it was a terrific cinema-going experience! Even though I figured out "who dunnit" long before the big reveal, I genuinely loved it. And so did Mom. And that's all that matters. :-)
Not Your Average Harrison Ford
Harrison gives his usual quality performance however the plot takes so many twists as to be confusing.
Very Surprised
This is an unusual film for Harrion Ford. Most of his work over the last 30 years has been of one-dimentional character types stereotypical to their respective stories. Beside Hank, from "Regariing Henry", this was the first time where he allows the viewer to see his personal struggle with success and failure at the rist of appearing chiche. Make no mistake there is nothing cleche about this character or this film.
As an attorney being pulled apart by personal loyalties and perfessionalism Harrison shows us a side to his craft that we rarely see. With his marriage on the verge of destruction Ford brings us into a work shockingly realistic and unrelentimg in its scope.
Pollack, with hs unigue style of direction, dramatically pulls the audience through a labrynth of legal, and political interigue leaving the answers for the viewer to develope - this is not a sugar coated, spoon feed me thriller.
If you're looking for something to keeo you on the edge of your seat, this is the one to watch. But hold on tight, its a bumpy ride.
