Plot Summary
PRIEST, a post-apocalyptic sci fi thriller, is set in an alternate world -- one ravaged by centuries of war between man and vampires. The story revolves around a legendary Warrior Priest (Paul Bettany) from the last Vampire War who now lives in obscurity among the other downtrodden human inhabitants in walled-in dystopian cities ruled by the Church. When his niece (Lily Collins) is abducted by a murderous pack of vampires, Priest breaks his sacred vows to venture out on an obsessive quest to find her before they turn her into one of them. He is joined on his crusade by his niece’s boyfriend (Cam Gigandet), a trigger-fingered young wasteland sheriff, and a former Warrior Priestess (Maggie Q) who possesses otherworldly fighting skills.

Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: The film, based in name only on a series of South Korean graphic novels, has nice, washed-out desert exteriors and some cool jet-powered motorcycles, but there's nothing in the hackneyed story or the derivative action scenes to make you take notice.
Rotten: The film is somehow a disappointing combo of too-full and oddly empty.
Rotten: "Priest'' is based on a series of Korean graphic novels. What it's really based on, though, is other movies - a whole lot of other movies.
Rotten: High production values and slick editing can't save this picture. Nor does its overbearing soundtrack music, which tries to strong-arm viewers into believing they're watching a pulse-pounding thriller.

Disappointing
Priest is another one of those films thats based on a graphic novel that no one has ever heard of. The material is probably interesting in its artistic comic book form but as a film it seems more like a rip off of many sci fi action horror films from the last 25 years, but thats not its biggest flaw. This film is not well made. The filmmakers narratively chose to use the most interesting part of the story as an intro title sequence with unimpressive animation. From there on the film starts and becomes a basic western thats disguised as sci fi. The cast does not do a good job nor do they fit their roles. The action scenes are poorly scripted and executed. This film is from the director of Legion, a decent picture but he takes a huge step back with Priest. I do not recommend this film. Its a movie that needed to be on the drawing board a little bit longer before it got produced.
