Plot Summary
Master of horror John Carpenter (Halloween, The Thing) directs this terrifying battle between humankind and ultimate evil. A group of graduate students and scientists uncover an ancient canister in an abandoned church, but when they open the container, they inadvertently unleash a strange liquid and an evil force on all humanity. As the liquid turns their co-workers into zombies, the remaining members realize they have released the most unspeakable of horrors, Satan himself, thus paving the way for the return of his father - the all-powerful anti-God. Terror mounts as the last two members of the team must fight to save an innocent world from a devilish fury that has festered for over seven million years.

Classic Wierd Fascinating Low-Budget but clever
This movie came out long before 1998. While it is low budget, it is original, clever, entertaining, some might say haunting, and for a B Movie, it sure outmanuevers most horror/sci-fi. If Horror means unstoppable guts downpour, this is not that sort of thing, but there is some. This is more believable as you watch than most any other of it's type, and that's one of it's strengths. "Our logic disappears on the subatomic level into ghosts...and shadows..."
Great Horror / Sci-Fi Flick
The Film: This is one of John Carpenter's better movies in my opinion. I remember watching this real late one night on TV, it was terrifying in a subtle way which made me appreciate it even more. Most horror movies today rely to much on blood, guts and grusome distorted special effects to achieve their thrills. This movie is truly captivating and ultra-creepy. Liquid Satan, eh? Original idea. The Food: Fresh Grilled Shrimp sauted in garlic and olive oil over Fettucini in a pesto-cream sauce. I suggest a really good Prosecco to cut through the olive oil and add a little spritz to your horror movie watching adventure. Together I think this is the perfect pairing of food and wine with this movie! Happy cooking and movie watching!
One of my personal favorite Carpenter flicks
Though Prince of Darkness is not one of Carpenter's best, it is his most philosophical. Two sides, one of religion, the other of science, join together to battle an ancient Evil that threatens to destroy the Earth is released from its prison. PoD expresses Carpenter's own take on how religion began leading to the modern mythos we know it to be today. While some students remain faithless, and others begin to believe that what they are dealing with is truly the Devil himself resuscitated, one thing is for sure, the Devil himself doesn't pick favorites. The faithful and the faithless are both his prey, and none of the students may ever make it out alive... or dead. The climax still remains the best part in which those left human battle their now zombified colleagues in a showdown to end all showdowns. You probably won't believe how it ends. Just watch and see.
